
Dr. Michel Hogenes was born on November 8, 1970, in Purmerend, the Netherlands. He studied Electronic Organ and Music Education in Schools at the Alkmaar School of Music and obtained post-HBO certificates in Ortho(ped)agogical Music Practice, Keyboards, and Early Childhood Music Education. Michel earned a PhD in educational pedagogy at the VU University in Amsterdam.
After his studies, Michel worked as a (music) teacher in special education, primary and secondary education. He has been working in higher education since 2000, namely as a principal lecturer of pedagogy/ educational science, artistic orientation/ music, and internationalisation at the PABO, the teacher education programme, of The Hague University of Applied Sciences, and led the Master of Arts Education at Codarts, University of the Arts in Rotterdam. Michel is partly seconded from The Hague University of Applied Sciences to Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts in Amsterdam.
In addition to his work at both universities, Michel is active in various organisations. He is president of Gehrels Music Education; editor of JETEN, the Journal of the European Teacher Education Network (ETEN), as well as board member of this network; chairman of the Music Advisory Committee of the Dutch Choral Association KCZB; and ambassador of More Music in the Classroom. Since April 2006, Michel is conductor of Projektkoor Rijswijk.
